One Southwest Florida school is helping those in need get ready for the holidays. Mason Classical Academy in Collier County has been collecting food all week to make sure those who are less fortunate have a Thanksgiving meal.

Their goal is to collect 10,000 pounds of food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. That is 1,000 pounds more than they collected last year.

The school’s principal, John Demasi, says a little bit of food can go a long way. “We’re really trying to push virtue to our students. It really makes you, you know, feel proud that you know, what you’re working so hard to instill in these students is coming through, through their actions. ”

Demasi said they are looking for canned proteins, canned vegetables and canned fruit.

The food drive will end on Friday. If you would like to donate food to the school you can drop them off at the school.
