Guilty Until Proven Innocent: Richardson's child abuse arrest

By WINK News

ARCADIA & DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. - Call For Action has learned a new and possibly big wrinkle in the James Joseph Richardson case.

Richardson was wrongfully accused of murdering his seven children in Arcadia in 1968. Richardson is now petitioning the state for $1,100,000 for time that he wrongfully spent in jail for the murders.

Call For Action has learned Richardson was arrested in 1997, about five years he was released from prison. His arrest was for child abuse.

According to Duval County Clerk of Courts, Richardson was arrested for child abuse but the case was quickly reduced to misdemeanor battery. Richardson pleaded no contest. He was never sent to jail.

Judge Brent D. Shore sentenced Richardson to two days in jail, which he already served. Judge Shore credited Richardson with time served and released him.

According to Clerk of Courts records there may be a $100 dollar fee from the case that is still unpaid.

On Monday, lawyers for Richardson will be in court and we may find-out if this arrest will have anything to do with his claim to the state.

It appears Richardson's lawyers are just now learning of this arrest and are not commenting on the issue to WINK News at this point in time.

I agree with Dutch, it is time some one looked into Desoto County Laws, because they are not the same as they are in the rest of the country. Just ask anyone who is not part of the Good Ol' Boy click. Lets look at who the Good Ol' Boys are. If Governor Christ truly cares about all of Florida his office should look into many other cases besides Mr. Richardson's. The State Attorney's office should also see they already destroyed Mr.Richardson's life and family.

I'm speaking about the original murder case from 1968 which in reality is THE CASE here. Sorry you missed that. I forgot most of the people reading these posts are transplants.

DUTCH, I really don't see how you could 'remember this case very well' when it was just discovered that Richardson had been arrested in 1997. Even his attorney is only now learning this but you remember this very well. I'm impressed !

I remember this case very well. I was a senior at Charlotte High when all this happened. I felt then and I still feel today that Richardson got the shaft from a Good Ol' Boy system that was looking for an easy solve and as a result, this case has NEVER been solved a never will be. Richardson should receive all he has sued for and more!
