As all are quite aware, except possibly the sherrif and the media, a rather poorly put together scam. The father did wait and call the tv station third, so at least one point for him. The son told it like it was, that he was hiding for the "show". You could see the parents reaction to this. During the fathers interviews, his lying was obvious. As someone earlier said, the cost of all the resources used should be paid by the parents.

I think that the parents should pay for every resource that was used instead the tax payer's money. I think that they should be heavily fined and spend time in jail and on probation to do community service. I feel bad for the kids that they have stupid parents. Little kids mostly tell the truth for most part.

Horrible horrible horrible. The parents should be jailed and have the kids taken from them. I'm so sick of parents exploiting their kids for 15 minutes of fame. Nobody would have given a rats A** about his hot air balloon otherwise, and he just wanted the attention. They endanger their kids all the time by dragging them into hurricanes and tornadoes. It seems to me that the background of the father, Reality Show, So-called- Science Detective show, etc that the father enjoys being on television and wants to impose and share his "views" with the world but wants to be right. I believe the kid was telling the truth, it was done for the show. I doubt that the kid would have lied when first asked given how dramatic with SO many cameras and reporters. Unlike the wife swap episode, this must have been overwhelming. The truth will come out.

It was an OBVIOUS hoax. I was watching the kid and he never seemed upset enough to hid for so long. In fact, he "hid" much longer than a six-year-old would have. Someone will be prosecuted for this.
