Airline charges obese passengers

United Airlines will start charging overweight passengers for an extra seat if they are unable to sit in their assigned seat without spilling over the armrest or unable to fasten their seat belt even with an extender.

Passengers that are too big to fly in regular coach seating will have to either purchase an extra seat or upgrade to a larger seat in first class.

A self-proclaimed "fat" advocate says this is discrimination.

OF COURSE THEY SHOULD CHARGE THEM. IF THEY ARE TAKING UP ONE AND A HALF OR TWO SEATS THEN THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY. AND I AGREE I WOULD TAKE A SCREAMING KID OVER AN OBESE PERSON IN MY SEAT ANYDAY. YOU CAN GET A KID TO BE QUITE BUT HAVING TO SQUEEZE INTO A SEAT THAT IS HALF OCCUPIED JUST MAKES THE WHOLE RIDE UNCOMFORTABLE.

Are you kidding me!? I will take a screaming kid over an obese person spilling over to my seat any day! At least with a screaming kid you can put ear plugs in or listen to an ipod. What do I do with an obese person sharing my seat? C'mon people! Move over!

THey shouldn't charge overweight people on the airlines. THat is totally outrageous!!!! If that is the carse they should charge the screaming kids, the people with bad hygiene, and the loud snoreing people! Everyone has a flaw and its unfair to charge these people. This is almost like a racist thing!! They should adjust to accomendate everyone. Just deal with being uncomfortable for a few hours, it's not like your stuck wwith the person seated next you for life!!!!!

Overweight people may of annoyance to other passengers. But what about people with SCREAMING children? Or people with body odor? I think having to listen to screaming for three hours or a very offensive smell would be more annoying then having to slightly adjust to another person. Why can't people just be more tolerant to each other? It isn't like you have to sit next to people forever. Get over fat people like I have to get over your obnoxiously spolied children.

Hoorah! I'm tired of paying for my seat that I share with an obese stranger - with their arm and "lap" resting on me. It would not be practical to have the airlines redo all the seats to larger sizes. It would then cost all of us extra money. How about some self control so that America is not known as the land of the Overweight people. What an embarrassing example of gluttony.
