Parkinson's Disease: Teaching and learning

By Jennifer Stacy

Ft. Myers - Parkinson's Disease is a cruel degenerative disorder that robs suffers of mobility, and in the advanced stages, speech. Now there's a free option for physical therapy for Southwest Floridians.

Heritage Institute students who are learning to become personal trainers, are helping Parkinson's Patients reclaim their mobility.

The program, launched 4 months ago, is free for patients who come in each week for one-on-one training. It allows students a change to gain real world experience, while offering a beneficial service to the community.

The Heritage Institute also provides workout sessions for weight loss, and therapy for other patients with different mobility issues.
