Eye on Your Health: Kids and Dental Health

By Jennifer Stacy

Naples - Dental health is improving in America overall, according to the results of a study by the Centers for Disease Control. But that's not the case in young kids. Tooth decay in children between the ages of two and five, is actually on the rise.

Some Dentists believe the decline in oral health in kids can be attributed to diets high in sugar, and poor oral hygiene practices.

Children should see a dentist as soon as their first tooth appears. Dentists say, It's important to get into the habit of good dental health early.

In addition to frequent brushing, kids should see a dentist every 6 months.

Also, keep in mind, while baby teeth are temporary, their influence is not. They impact facial development and guide adult teeth into position.

Prevention is key. Practicing good dental health at a young age can prevent problems, and expensive corrective dental bills in the future.
