CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Summer camp is usually aimed at adventure and fun, but one new local opportunity has much more serious goals, aiming to change lives and promote health. The camp's creator, Chris Casey, is a Physical Education teacher, He saw first-hand the struggles overweight kids face at school.
The four week long weight loss camp is held in Cape Coral at Christ Lutheran School. The winners, are the biggest losers: kids who lose the most body fat each week will win prizes. The grand prize is a cruise. The camp costs $150 per week.
Under the direction of Coach Chris Casey, the kids will keep track of their food in journals, learn healthy eating skills, work out, and stay very active with sports like basketball, kickball, and swimming. They'll also go on field trips to places like fitness centers and parks. Guest speakers will also visit offering advice and encouragement.
