Free vitamins for a year

By Jennifer Stacy

NAPLES, Fla. - Most of the time, you can't get something for nothing, but there is an exception to that rule thanks to a locally owned pharmacy. It's a little gift for Moms and Dads, that will help keep their kids healthy.

Sunshine Pharmacy is offering Collier County parents a unique opportunity: free vitamins for your kids for a year.

"We just launched this July 1st." Explains Annalise Smith, VP Business Development. "It's an opportunity for us to offer free vitamins to any child in the county who is twelve years old or younger. We recognize children, so long as they're healthy, are going to perform better in school."

Parents need to get a prescription from their Pediatrician to qualify, to make sure vitamins are right for their kids. Those who eat healthy are usually not in need of extra vitamins, but those who are picky eaters and who shun fruits and vegetables can often benefit. Families who use well water instead of city water can also benefit. Their children may be lacking fluoride, which can be obtained through supplements.

The multi-vitamins come in several different forms, from liquid for babies, to chew ables, and pill tablets.

In this tough economy, Smith says it's a benefit to struggling families and the small pharmacy chain .

"We hope a year from now, we have a lot of healthy kids within the community and a lot more customers within our stores."

It is hard to beat something for nothing unless it is something that has no benefit and will most likely harm you. Fluoride supplements as all ingested fluoride products have never had a FDA approval or even a review ever. The FDA in 1979 had to admit they they had no research showing fluoride is a nutrient or probable nutrient after losing three lawsuits in 1978. All evidence now shows supplements of fluoride for kids do not seem to have measurable benefit but do increase dental fluorosis. Jim
