National Start Walking Day

April 16, 2008

By The Associated Press

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - Rising health care costs and losses in employee productivity have corporate America looking very hard for ways to improve employee health. It may be as simple as slipping on a pair of walking shoes before or after work.

A sedentary lifestyle doubles your risk for heart disease.

The American Heart Association and doctors are encouraging companies to promote walking and its benefits.

On April 16th, many companies across Southwest Florida will be participating in the National Start Walking Day.

Getting involved with the campaign is as simple as parking farther away from your office or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The campaign encourages people to walk more, eat well and live longer.
