Eye on Education: Detecting a bully

By Melissa Cabral, WINK News

Fort Myers - Alarming statistics show almost half of all students have been the victim of a bully.

WINK News got an exclusive interview with a bully expert who revealed warning signs your child may be targeting other children.

If you're receiving reports from multiple sources your child is being cruel or mean.

If you see your child doesn't really show empathy for other people, and if your child is charming only to get what they want at the time.

Caryn Hacker says if any of this sounds familiar, talk to your child and focus on changing their behavior in those moments.

She also says bullies tend to have low self esteem and victimize other children to gain control over a situation.

Hacker has written a book on this very subject, one version is for parents to read to their children that includes discussion questions and exercises.

The other is for the child to read.
