The third graders at St. Francis Xavier School know a whole lot more about butterflies today, and may never look at them the same again.
The students ended their study of the insects with a release on Thursday. As part of the project they studied the metamorphosis of a butterfly and its life stages from egg, larvae/caterpillar, pupa/chrysalis to adult.
Teachers say to experience the phenomena of complete metamorphosis, in a classroom setting, develops a deeper realization of the wondrous world in which we live and our responsibility to preserve and protect our environment.
