FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Southwest Florida priest is facing allegations of sexual abuse.
Former Bishop Verot Activities Director, Father Dennis Killion, is accused of abusing four teens at a school in Delaware more than 20 years ago.
Father Killion was the Activities Director since 2006, and was transferred back to Wilmington, Delaware two months ago.
He was reassigned to a church in Philadelphia, but since the allegations surfaced he was placed on administrative leave at a retirement facility in Maryland.
The lawsuit filed in New Castle County Delaware Superior Court has four plaintiffs.
They allege Father Dennis Killion used his position of authority to sexually harass, molest, and abuse them more than 20 years ago while they were teens attending a high school in Wilmington, Delaware.
The suit also alleges the Diocese of Wilmington and his order knew about Father Killion's tendencies as a child molester and had a duty to reveal the truth.
WINK News contacted members of the order who say they had no idea about the allegations until the lawsuit was filed.
The Diocese of Venice Florida issued this written statement, "The Diocese of Venice was not aware of any allegations against Father Killion prior to his coming to Bishop Verot High School nor has it received any complaints about him while he was here."
Bishop Verot Principal Father Chris Beretta says, "It's very disheartening." He also says, "I know of absolutely nothing during his time here that would have made me suspicious or concerned."
The Diocese of Venice says before working at Bishop Verot, Father Killion passed a criminal background check.
Joelle Casteix, a sexual abuse survivor and Southwest Regional Director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests says, "This man is a priest in the eyes of catholic children he's god on earth reporting abuse is very very difficult."
