Local school districts brace for more budget cuts

By Melissa Cabral, WINK News

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The Lee County School District is bracing for more cuts from the state.

The Florida Commissioner of Education is recommending all school districts across the state reduce their budget by another two percent.

In Lee County, that works out to be about $12 million dollars on top of the 29 million dollars already cut from the budget.

Superintendent Dr. James Browder says money will be taken out of the reserves and there will be no further job cuts.

Charlotte County School District leaders say they prepared already for this cut and it will not impact any jobs or students in the classroom.

We also contacted the Collier County School District to find out how much more it were going to have to cut and where the money will come from but we have not heard back yet.
