LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The Lee County School Board accepted the resignation of superintendent Dr. James Browder, but it's only temporary.
His resignation will be effective July 1st through the 31st and is considered a technicality.
Browder explains he has to resign in order to terminate his participation in the Florida Deferred Option Retirement Program, known as DROP.
According to the state, when one goes into DROP they are essentially working toward retirement.
Since Browder decided to end his participation with DROP, according to the law, he has to resign for one full payroll month and collect no pay or benefits from a Florida Retirement System employer.
He had to take that month within the next 14 months and says he chose July for personal reasons.
"I'm choosing to do it now and the board allowed me to do it now so I can go and deal with my father and issues inside his health and I look forward to coming back August first," Browder told WINK News Tuesday afternoon.
The board also voted to re-hire him effective August 1st under his current contract conditions.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Michael McNerney will take over during the month of July.

It fully came about that Mr Browder really hoodwinked the people of Lee County on threats of leaving for a Sports Adminastration postion and less pay for that job. But now is getting retirement pay and his INCREASED PAY from Lee Publc. He is useing the retirement option wrong, legally yes. Be honorable and take a cut and train another person to do the job HONORABLY

Sadly, these folks who are posting have no idea how much progress the Lee County School District teachers and students have made while under Dr. Browder's leadership. Have you heard that Lee County became one of the largest districts in the country to earn district accreditation? How about that our test scores are continuing to raise? For the teacher who was surplussed, it's not just in Lee County. This is happening all over the state of Florida.

Its all about the money for Dr. Browder. He needs to go for good, no one will miss him.

Maybe his salary for that one month can pay me for my three years of service. I was placed in a surplus pool and "may" get a call back. While he is off on vacation, i'll be filing for unemployment and hope to get at least one check - let alone 2 like the high officials in the DROP program - it is double dipping!!

He can leave for good. The schools have suffered enough with him.
