UPDATE: Students allegedly overdose during class

By Melissa Cabral, WINK News

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Several Lee County students left class early after allegedly overdosing on cough syrup.

We're being told teens separate the flavoring from the cough medicine and drink the concentrated medicine.

Southwest Florida Addiction Services says it's popular because it's cheap, easy, legal and gives users a hallucinogenic high.

Ambulances took the students to area hospitals.

The Lee County School District notified all their parents.

The district is now investigating.
