Authorities: Immokalee student arrested for planning to deploy destructive devices

By The Associated Press

IMMOKALEE, Fla. (AP) - An Immokalee High School student has been arrested after authorities say he planned to deploy four destructive devices made of soda bottles and cleaning products.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office says 16-year-old Darius Deloach faces destructive device charges, as well as possessing a weapon on school property and disrupting school.

One student complained of burning in his chest and said a substance in one of the bottles splashed on him. He was treated at the scene.

School was dismissed early.

This thing that they did at IHS was so childish...they had to have the police crime scene, ambulance, firefighters,20 police cars by 5:00 pm and a helicopter around the area. Hopefully he gets a good punishment for what he did in school

Do you all think he did this alone. Probably not. But knowing the kids in Immokalee he will not rat out his friends. Do you really think he brought it to school with him, more than likely not.

Why blame Immokalee for every wrong problem. What Darius did was bad but it doesnt mean to take it overboard. It of been an accident. Accidents happen even you do it too. No one is perfect not everything is right. Hope Darius is alright. I might not now the guy but my eyes tell me he is a nice good person. We should not judge no one not everyone is guitly. Only those who blame stuff to others must be the guitly ones.

From my opinion Immokalee High School is wonderful school, everyone out there thinks were good for trouble. Although Darius is wonderful student here at Immokalee High, everyone is putting on this blame on him he has so much ahead of him in the future. I also think he should not be lock for something little like this yes is was not right for him to do this on school property, but the princpal here made this to big....

People of this nature should be removed from society. We (those that are half-sane or more and with some semblance of conscience) know what happens when people like this are not put away soon enough. They shoot and kill classmates in Columbine, they kill people at Virginia Tech, they blow up a government buildin in Oklahoma City or they blow up the Twin Tower Complex and part of The Pentagon. It's all the same and those perpetrators should be put away for life (death?) one way or another.

i think people are making way to much out of this yea he shouldnt have done that any where near school but i know the story didnt say exactly what was in the soda bottle but i know what is was and its not a big bomb it a simple chem reaction of 2 things that causes pressure inside the bottle and make the plastic expand and eventually the bottle has to break under the pressure

You people keep saying oh he made a mistake NO a mistake is maybe getting caught with a little bit of marijuana or something petty.Bringing 4bombs to school is not a mistake. The mistake would now be if they let him back on the streets.Kiss your football career goodbye Darious

I think that no one has the right to judge darius for his action but only god. Ya its true it was destructive and none sense but no one has to make him seem as a criminal. Also no teacher has no right to be sayin dat he/she knew it had to be darius. How would you feel if that was your child in his place. What people never do is put themselves in peoples place. Maybe he was going through some trouble. And please stop judging people when you dont even know there background and where they came from.

Judging from both the sentence structure and spelling used in this commentary section, it is difficult to believe that anyone here in fact knew the bomber, as that would imply genuine school attendance. Isn’t there a bomb making rap song? I’m just wondering how he could have read the instructions.

as a parent I'm very concerned about what happened and how the matter was taken care of if it's true that it was happening all day and that no one questioned it until after lunch what does that say about the adminstration and security of the school?i fear not only for my children but for all the rest. i've seen this boy through out the years and he is a very talented and smart kid. his actions were not I think that he could be crying for help or attention in some matter.i pray that he gets it

I guarantee if students would have been seriously hurt nobody would have any thing good to say about this boy. He's just lucky he lives in Collier County cause if he lived in Polk County he would never see the light of day again.

How can you not see him as a criminal it's not like he brought a stuffed animal to school he brought what basically are bombs.Wake up people in the times we are living in now there is no room for this activity.I hope and pray they throw the book at him and maybe even make an example out of him by giving him life that would be wonderful in my book.I've seen the damage these chemical bombs make and it is nothing to dismiss as a simple mistake

Knowing Darius for quite a long time, I can say that Darius is not a harmful kid, what I do know of Darius is that he is smart, atletic, and young, and what do all young kids have in common?? We all love excitment and sometimes we may act before thinking causing ourselves to end up in some bad situations! Althoough what Darius did was against the law and very outrageous, we still have to remember that people make mistakes, and you can't just ruin their entire lives for that. TRUST N GOD~~ALWAYZ

I've known Darius for a long time we aren't what you would call friends but i do know that he would never hurt someone intentionally, yes what he did was wrong but no one was seriously hurt. I also beleive that he needs to take responability for what he did i just hope that he isnt seen as a criminal.

When Students are blessed to have both honor roll and athletic god given abilities, you just can not afford to be caught up in these type of situations. One must pray and ask the Lord for guidence 24/7 to make the right choices. This situation could ruin or set him back for a long time to come. We need to pray for our young people especially our young men!!!! They can be their worst enimies at times. I hope he learns from this..Being the popular, you will be watched all the time for everything,

What happened at school yesterday was a joke. It proved to me that the school is not ready to handle any kind of serious attack on the school of any sort. They had been going off all day long and they finally did something after lunch? How many people could have been hurt by then? I guess that were lucky that it was not a high school shooting out a lot more of us would have been hurt then there were if any.

well i am also a student at immokalee high and i think that if he didn't have intentions of hurting someone then why throw something with a substance in it. maybe he didn't have intentions of doing it. maybe he didn't know but i have no idea why someone would throw something like that. he is a good football player but that was not a good move that he made.
