Pastor talks about near-death experience

Off-duty deputy saves his life

By WINK News

COLLIER COUNTY - When pastor Greg Ball and his wife Bobbie decided to go out for a jog last week, they had no idea the adventure that awaited them.

Less than a mile into the run, Greg, who had turned 48 the day before, collapsed. "We usually jog to the left and this time we jogged to the right," says Greg. "We made a jog around and from that moment on, I really didn't remember anything that happened. My wife said I took off running, got about a hundred yards ahead of her, and just dropped."

Bobbie frantically sought help. "I started beating on doors, trying to get someone to call 911, got frustrated with that and just ran to Jim's house," she says.

Jim is also known as Deputy James Streeter of the Collier County Sheriff's Office. He lives a few doors down from where Greg collapsed and when Bobbie ran into his house, Deputy Streeter got his portable defibrillator from his patrol car and quickly made it to Greg's side.

"He wasn't responsive," says Streeter. "He wasn't breathing and had no pulse." The deputy, off-duty at the time, brought Greg back to life.

"The next thing I remember," says Greg, "was waking up in the hospital and hearing the amazing story of what God did for my life."
