Joshua Galang may only be 12 years old, but he's already reaching for the stars.
He has developed an interest in space travel, and decided to write and illustrate a book about it. The book is called Rocket Trip and was published by a local company.
"I'm really interested in space," Joshua tells us. "I would be an astronaut if I had the chance."
Joshua, whose family is in the medical field, talked with his mom about donating some of his books to The Children's Hospital Oncology department to help cheer up kids with cancer.
"A lot of the people we know have died from cancer, like my piano teacher and my mom's grandmom," says Joshua, adding that's why he thought it would be a good idea to give his book to other kids. "I hope it takes their minds off their treatments and when they read it, they'll be transported to another place."
Joshua also presented a 400-dollar check to Barbara's Friends, the cancer fund foundation that works in conjunction with Lee Memorial. "It gives me a great deal of pleasure to see a young man do something like that," says Barbara's Friends chairman Frank Haskell. "To have a fellow like that doing something for his peers who are less fortunate than he is, it's outstanding."
