NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - As talk of budget cuts swirls through counties in Southwest Florida, one Island Coast High School student wants adults to know how she feels about it.
So Oneida Mauricio started doing some research. She found "it showed all of the budget cuts going on around the state and I thought, 'This is going to affect me and my teachers.'"
She wrote an essay (without being asked, it was not homework), just to express her viewpoint.
The 15-year-old doesn't want anything to necessarily come of this, she just wants adults to know kids think about this stuff too.
"I think it's important for us kids," she says. "Because it's talking about our future. Without teachers, how are we going to learn for our future?"
