SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - It was a typical day at WINK-TV when a letter, in the form of an e-mail, arrived. And it was quite a delight to read.
In the letter, a young LaBelle man described his youth hockey team, which plays at the Fort Myers Skatium. He said the team was going to the state championships at the end of February.
He requested news coverage of his team, but his letter was so descriptive, we simply put his words to pictures. Here, in its entirety, is the letter:
Dear Mr. Cribbs,
My name is Caleb Stitt and I am 9 years old. I am a player for the Florida Eels Squirt A hockey team. We play at the Skatium right down the road from Wink. My mom and I like to watch you on the 6 o'clock news. I asked my mom if you would ever do a story on hockey players like us. She said there is only one way to find out. I should ask.
I live in Labelle, Florida. Many of my teammates live over an hour away from the rink. We are 7-10 years old. We come in small, medium, and large sizes. We have girls and boys. We just came in 3rd place at the Christmas tournament at Germain. We travel all over the state to play teams in our league. We are Squirt A which means good, not great. We have new uniforms this year like the Pittsburgh Penguins. My mom said you might like that because you are from Pittsburgh like them. I would love for you to come and skate with us. Sometimes we look great and sometimes we crash in to each other. My teammates work really hard and they are good students. We get lots of A's. I know they would get a kick out of meeting you and being on tv. Please think about us for your show. We will be going to SAHOF at the end of February. That is the state championships. Thank your for your time.
I'm sorry if you got a bunch of empty mails. I'm not good at email yet. My mom had to help me send this one the right way. She fixed my spelling too.
Caleb Stitt
