Teddy bears given to loving owners

Teddy bear tossies delivered

By Judd Cribbs

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Each year, the Everblades hockey team holds a "Teddy Bear Toss" game.

Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game, then toss them on the ice after the Blades score their first goal.

This year, 7,382 fans tossed 6,713 toys onto the ice. Those toys are then donated to local youth charities and also to kids at The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida at Healthpark in Fort Myers.

Everblade Colin Nicholson says it's the team's way to repaying the fans and maybe even making some new, tiny fans. "The community is really what supports the team," he says, "and the fans are always there for us."

A couple hundred toys were give out at Healthpark.
