Feet-Eating Fish

New pedicure in town

By Judd Cribbs, WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - There are hundreds of new workers at the Glow Skin Care salon in Fort Myers.

They are very tiny and will work for food. They are Garra Rufa fish, and they feed off dead skin cells.

"It's an all-natural pedicure," says owner and fish boss Ivette Cavceglia. "These fish have no teeth, so they're using suction power to exfoliate your skin."

Customers put their feet in sanitized tanks, each containing about 125 fish. People who were having the treatment today say the fish feel like "little massagers" and "tiny vacuum machines."

Cavceglia says the procedure is an alternative for people who have allergies to lotions or other problems associated with a traditional pedicure.

Glow Skin Care is located just off Daniels Parkway near I-75.

I heard they banned this type of pedicure in some places because they said it was unsanitary.
