The Charlotte Players are bringing the rain just in time for the rainy season.
They're performing "The Rainmaker" at the Cultural Center Theatre in Port Charlotte. The play opens Friday and runs through June 1st.
It's about a Depression-era western town in the middle of a drought. A con man comes to town, promising residents he can make it rain. This ignites an interesting love triangle.
The show's director, Michele Strauss, says she hopes it will connect with a wide audience, say it is "a little more tender, a little more dramatic, a little more low-key" than other plays the group has done.
"I think they're trying to get back into doing plays that bring a message," she adds, "a little more heart-warming that the standard musical comedy-type fare."
Evening performances (8pm) are May 23, 24, 29-31 and matinées (2pm) are on May 25th and June 1st.
The Cultural Center of Charlotte County theatre is located at 2280 Aaron Street in Port Charlotte at the corner of Aaron & Gertrude.
Adults tickets are $14 and students are $7. For more information, check out:
