Each week in May, I'm attempting to get a small taste of other peoples' jobs.
Last week I was at the State Attorney's Office, learning how to shuttle information between the various departments.
This week, I'm sitting in (albeit briefly) for AM 1240/1270 WINK NEWS RADIO "Daybreak" host Mandy Connell. Mandy is a bubbly and friendly co-worker who bravely gets behind the microphone each morning from 5:30 am to 9 am and talks with listeners about every subject under the sun.
"This week I'm learning about shale oil," she says, "it's for a day next week."
Mandy spends much of her off-air time researching a wide variety of subjects. "I have to find them interesting," she says. "I want to have something that's worthy of discussion."
She says listeners are great at interacting on her show and she rarely has to subject someone to the mute button. "I will cut them off if I have to," she says with a smile. "My idea of a conversation is I talk, you talk, I talk, you talk. If they're not letting me make a point or ask a question, then I'll hang up on them. Because they're not interested in a dialog, they're interested in a diatribe. And it's my show, I get to do the diatribe!"
