Cape teens practicing for national tourney

By Judd Cribbs

Some Cape Coral teens are getting ready to roll.

Eight of them, bowling at Friendship Lanes, are practicing for the National Youth Detroit Open Championship in July.

All the young bowlers have averages between 167 and 210 and some have been bowling since they were five years old.

"I started when I was five," says 13-year-old Taylor France. "Everyone in my family bowls, so I got into it with them."

The kids, six boys and two girls, can win as much as $2,300 each in scholarship money and have already raised the cash needed, through local business sponsors, to make the trip.

They will be bowling against about 8,000 other youngsters.
