A drill team you can't imagine

Royal Palm staff up to usual hijinx

By Judd Cribbs

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The staff at the Royal Palm Retirement Centre in Port Charlotte is always coming up with ways to entertain the residents.

Their latest caper? Creating a drill team using extra walkers. The routine has been performed a couple of times already by the six-person team.

"We pretty much are willing to go anywhere and do anything," says nurse and drill sergeant Cindy Caillier, of the group's new routine.

"We semi-perfect it," she says, "Then we put it in front of the residents and if the residents like it, we go from there."

So how did they like it?

"Oh, they loved it. They fell off their chairs (not literally). The lobby was packed."

"We're going to perform it at the Christmas parade and then for an AARP meeting," says Caillier.

The Punta Gorda Christmas Parade is Saturday December 1st at noon on Taylor Street.
