Kids learn proper election procedure

By Judd Cribbs

Students at Pelican Marsh Elementary School in Naples are learning all about the election process... by having one themselves.

They're are getting ready to elect officers on their student council this Friday. Currently, the candidates are campaigning for votes, which will be cast on actual voting machines.

"It's all about the process," says the school's Heidi Pinney, "And I think the important part is to show the students they have a choice and a vote in helping make decisions for their school."

Pinney also says the officers, once elected, will have a real say in school matters. "They'll meet with the administration and they will make suggestions, perhaps (something like) purchasing new playground equipment."

The candidates have made posters, which are now hanging in the cafeteria.
