6 Things You Should Never Buy With Your Credit Card

By WINK News

New at six:
Before you use your credit card again, we found six things you never want to charge. Call for action uncovered that starting this year, it's not just paying late that will get you in trouble. Now, even what you buy can create your own personal credit crunch. With the holidays coming people will be using their credit cards.

"gas, dinners, clothing, pretty much everything"

America's love affair with plastic has gone "love - hate" lately, as banks raise interest rates and cut credit lines ahead of tough new laws next year.

"we use it for travelling, we use it for appliances, we use it for new kitchens, we use it for groceries.."

None of those things made our list of the six things you should never buy on credit, but these did:

First: Traffic tickets

"we got a very nice traffic ticket in Washington on our way back from Florida last year - but I think I got a check - I don't think there was any choice"

Good thing. According to the author of "credit card nation." Dr. Robert Manning, who also founded the "responsible debt relief institute," says [traffic tickets] can make you look like a risk-taker, and push up your insurance rates making it harder to pay other bills like credit cards. For banks these days... That can be a red flag.

Second: "Holiday Cheer."

"what about alcohol?"
"oh yeah!"
"a lot of alcohol?"
"sure sure, its a commodity"

Manning says. Credit card companies see "back-to-back bar bills" as a sign of stress: maybe stress over money, or your job. Either way, they may dry up your credit line to help relieve *their* stress.

Third: Cash Advances

Banks look harder at people who need to borrow money these days.

Fourth: The…Umm…"Gentlemen's Club."

“trip to a strip club?”
“No don't frequent those”

It’s a good thing, these days that's "escapism" in the eyes of a bank. What might you be escaping from? Maybe financial trouble? See the pattern here? The last two will hit home for a lot of people in this long recession.

Fifth: Re-treading tires.

If you used to buy new ones... That can look like you're running out of money.

Sixth: Big changes in shopping habits.

Skipping Saks for a shopping spree at the dollar store.

"I don't know about spree but I’ve shopped there"

We got this letter from American Express... Lowering a credit limit after "carefully reviewing the spending and debt profiles of our card member." AMEX has been accused of cutting people's credit limits because they shop at Wal-Mart, or have mortgages with countrywide. AMEX denies that. American Express told me point blank: we do not look at where someone shops in a decision to reduce a credit limit. Two other very interesting things we found out you don't want to charge:

Seventh: Sudden frequent trips to the spa.

If you start pampering yourself all of a sudden, that could mean you're stressed out.

Eighth: Marriage counseling.

Again.. We know money starts a lot of arguments, and leads to divorces, so that's another red flag.
