It's a new twist on an old pyramid scheme and it could be targeting people who are very vulnerable right now, those who may lose their homes and those who just need to make some extra cash.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Jeannette Bicho doesn't usually answer the phone when she doesn't recognize the number. But when her caller ID said "government" she decided to answer.
"I saw government and thought it might be important," Jeannette told CALL FOR ACTION.
Jeannette says the person on the other line offered her a job from home.
She told CALL FOR ACTION what the caller said the job would entail, "We want you to get info on foreclosures we'll send you a list of foreclosure in the area."
The caller also said Jeannette would earn $30 - $35 thousand a year.
"Somehow they were trying to scam the elderly knowing they're home," said Jeannette, "And that money looks great to us! That's like a million dollars!"
Stacey Payne from the Lee County Sheriff's Office says the list is a fraud.
"The bad thing is not all of these properties are really foreclosed," said Payne.
Payne believes this is a pyramid scheme, where you're charged for the list, then make money by selling the list to others.
Payne also thinks the information collected isn't actually used to refinance those in foreclosure.
Payne told CALL FOR ACTION, "If somebody is calling you saying 'Would you like to work at home? and this is how you do it-- we're with the federal government, You can represent us in trying to solicit people to refinance in their homes' Hang up!"
Jeannette did hang up, but she worries about other who may have stayed on the line.
If you get one of these calls offering to refinance, also hang up. It may not be a legitimate company taking down your personal information.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department says if you have an opportunity you'd like to check out, you can always call them to see if it is a scam. The CASE FRAUD hotline number is 477-1242.
