SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - An organization dedicated to helping people fight foreclosure says it need financial help now.
"We need money that's the bottom line of the situation," says Home Ownership Resource Center Director Eddie Felton.
He and his HUD approved counselors help people facing foreclosure every day. He has lots of stories where he's helped someone save their home.
Felton told CALL FOR ACTION, "Out of the 300 clients that we've seen I would say we've had less than one percent failure. And I can say with a lot of pride the counselors here are very very well organized and very knowledgeable and very good at what they do."
This work comes with a price tag. The non-for-profit says it needs help.
"Basically I am working day to day here because of lack of funding," Felton told WINK, "And I really don't understand why I have not been able to get more support from the city and from the county because what we're doing here is saving their tax base."
Felton says he's looking for help to keep the doors open.
Felton said, "I'm not going to stop. I'm determined."
The City of Fort Myers did give the Home Ownership Resource Center a $25,000 grant. They say they've given him $8,000 and are processing paperwork to release the remaining amount of the grant. Meanwhile, the Fort Myers City Council approved emergency loans of up to seven thousand dollars to help people save their homes.
You can find out more by calling Fort Myers Community Development at 239-321-7966.
