CLEWISTON, Fla. - Hendry County has one of the highest unemployment rates in the stat, so when a new telecommunications company came to town, people applied and even went to work. But after a week without pay and no communication from the company, WINK News got a CALL FOR ACTION.
Angry and unemployed. People promised a job with La Promesa Corporation are finding out what they signed on for, isn't what it seems. The company does exist, but according to Hendry County sheriff's deputies, La Promesa is a modified pyramid scheme.
One of the members of the organization calls it a club, not a business.
"Regional managers were supposed to find three people they'd consider for district managers, then these three people were supposed to find seven coordinators and those seven were supposed to find four representatives," Kara Hernandez, La Promesa member, says. "Our position goes up as people are hired under us."
Now, those people pulled into the program want their personal information back and an explanation about how they got duped.
"They come out here with false advertisement that we're going to have jobs and we can do something with our lives, but it's a scam," Elgen Williams, falsely hired under La Promesa Corporation, says.
A woman representing the telecommunications company came to Clewiston's career services center and set up shop. It turns out, the woman making the hires didn't have the authority to do so.
"This lady came into work force development, took your applications and personal information, and now we need to hold the company responsible," Hendry County Commissioner Janet Taylor says.
And that's a problem according to Southwest Florida's Workforce Development, which has to approve businesses before they can contract workers from career services.
"Everyone on my staff needs to look at this and think 'boy is this too good to be true'," Barbara Short, Southwest Florida Workforce Development worker, says. "I think the breakdown was with this individual doing the interviewing and she may have taken some steps in hiring before she has received authorization to do so."
Short says policy could now change.
Up next county commissioners are considering legal action on behalf of people who have not been paid for work they've done for La Promesa in the past week, but because no one has paid La Promesa any money, and at this time no personal information has been stolen, no crime has been committed. What's lost is a promise.
The Hendry County Sheriff's Office is also investigating, creating a paper trail if the company misuses any personal information.

I think we uncovered the reason behind all of this - http://www.hwhbiz.com/images/LPC_UNION.pdf This company is starting it's own Credit Union - which employees are required to join and contribute part of their pay. What a wonderful way to get members! This is where the real money will be made for these so called leaders. Anyone can start a MLM sales group - and the definitely found the best prey out there!

Sr. Executive? Please... what are you, a "Director", "Regional Manager".... none of those "titles" makes you an executive. What are you paid... right now - not what are you being "promised". Are you on the Board of Directors? IS there a Board of Directors? If a company that has "recruited" 250,000 people can't plan a party then how are they planning a company? Also, any educated, professional executive would know better than to type a response in all CAPS.

THE SEATING LOGISTICS CHANGED FROM RECTANGLE TABLE TO ROUND TABLES FOR BETTER VIEWING OF THE STAGE. THE PHONE IS FREE! IT WAS NEVER STATED THAT IT WOULD BE DELIVERED AT THE EVENT. EVERYONE THAT ENTERED RECEIVED A VOUCHER TO BE USED AT THE TIME OF SERVICE AQUISITION. WE KINDLY ASK PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT SIGNED UP WITH LPC GLOBAL TO REFRAIN FROM INVENTING HERESAY ABOUT OUR COMPANY.

Beware of the deception of anti christ, the last days promises. Big money, get rich quick by using people. Someone, that was at that meeting on the 15th even says he has been made vice president and will be earning over $600,000 a year, who has recruited so many people and he himself right now has nothing to show and who a friend of mine knows. How can I believe and get involve when this same person has recruited same set of people for different fruitless businesses over six times this year?

No one got phones - so no one got them for free!!!!!! So what are your leaders telling you now? What excuses are they giving for being nowhere closer to "launching" this facade than they were over a hear ago? I feel bad that they are targeting these minorities and low income citizens and preying on their hope and faith.

I personally signed up several people already if it ends up being a scam I really dont care, I paid nothing, I heard the meeting in Miami was over booked plus people just showed up and walked in and got phones they never even paid for which caused a lot of people who did pay to miss out. I dont understand where the hell the security was during all this, but it does seem strange that people were turned away who had tickets while others got to walk in free.

Wow this is interesting. Some are speaking in Biblical Terms and some like the opportunity. I myself would welcome the Promise. If it's not true then I haven't lost anything. If they are tryin to steal Identities then if they are praying on the poor then this would be useless cause poor people generally have horrible credit. If they are providing hope then good for them even if it maybe reaching. If it's true the Great and God Bless everyone envolved. If you feel this is a scam then don't do it.

I was at the meeting in Miami August 15. My wife and I arrived 1 hour late , and there was a line of about 1000 people dressed in suits and evening dresses standing in 85 degree heat. After standing in line for an hour and a half it was announced that no more people would be allowed inside. After paying $100 each with the promise of dinner and my new satellite cell phone we were turned away with nothing along with about 300 other people. All anyone inside got was a promissory note 4 a phone

Wake up people! Let us make a simple math operation. La promasa offer a NOKIA N95 8GB cell phone for $100,while the same phone cost from $500-750 on the Market. You do not have to sign a contract, so where is La Promesa will make profit. Also, they offer 3 basic option and a combine one;however, all of them are the same price. Finally, lack of information. I went to www.lpcglobal.net and la promasa websites, which suppose to be the main source of information right? WRONG! In conclusion: SCAM

I did not give out any personal information on myself or my 7 peeps. I also made up birthdays and just put the real year just in case it is a scam. Most scams ask you for money up fron to get the info, they are not. So I gave no personal info, no money so what it there to lose? I guess we will have to see the web site the 15th, I hope it works

I can only hope that this corporation ends up with a success story sometime in the future. Americans need cheaper cell phone service, internet service and international calling service. La Promesa offers all 3 services for a great price. Also, the reps will make commissions on these sales. A startup company with this promise is what America needs so cross your fingers and lets keep some faith that this will happen and even if it doesn't we have been awakened and America needed this awakening.Tom

I've read that LA PROMESA isn't a pyramide scheme because they are not asking for money...BUT PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE THAT THEY WILL PAY $100 FOR A DINNER, THEY ARE GOING TO BUY A CELL PHONE AND THEY ARE GOING TO SIGN A SERVICE CONTRACT (OPTIONAL..MMM). So, LPC GLOBAL seems to be a pyramide scheme because THERE IS AN INVESTMENT INVOLVED AND THE WHOLE BUSINESS IS BASED ON RECRUITING PEOPLE. Besides, NO ONE IS GOING TO GET A SALARY (MANAGERS) IF THEY CAN'T BUILD UP A 437 PEOPLE NETWORK... WAKE UP!

Change is created with an open mind, what if they are telling the truth. There would be a new communications company getting started with over 200,000 prospective customers waiting to go and get more customers. If they are not telling the truth then they will lose 200,000 prospective customers who would get more customers. Who has more to lose? 15 August is the moment of truth. Most of us have given out more information and got less .. give the company a shot .. they have more to lose ,not you.

When anybody applies for a job, don't they already give out this information to the prospective employer? This company is not taking any money up front, it's not asking you to put up capital for a business, it's just offering you an opportunity. All we can do is apply and wait like we normally do in any job position we would apply for at any time, look at the application for Target. You think the application from this company is scary? Check Target's application out, you will be floored!!!

Don't you give your personal info to companies requesting credit that they deny? Just because they "promise" you that you are "almost" approved. People is afraid of the unknown, we are conditioned to think in a box, we are not able to open our minds to explore other opportunities. People from other places come become rich.
