Lee County Commissioners to talk dangerous roads

By WINK News

A new report shows Lee County is among the most dangerous communities in the nation for pedestrians. The county ranks 23rd out of all 360 metro areas.

The report ranks America's major metropolitan areas and states according to a Pedestrian Danger Index that assesses how safe they are for walking.

The report notes that most pedestrian deaths are preventable, because they occur on streets that are designed to encourage speeding traffic and lack safe sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian signals and other protections.

Tuesday Lee County Commissioners will vote on a resolution that says county roadways should be planned, designed and operated to provide safe access for all users, including those on foot and bikes.
