Attached are 2 photos by my friends Pam and Gina around 2 pm today of the stunning halo around the sun. We'd never seen anything like it, were just awestruck. I see a blog w/early morning photo that calls it a sundog. Another describes it as ring caused by the refraction of light off of cirrus clouds over 30,000 feet made of ice crystals. Can you tell us more, and frequency of these? Fantastic!!
