Remembering our Fallen Heroes

Published: Dec 31, 1969 7:00 PM EST

I'm sending this picture hoping that people will remember the significance of Memorial Day. Each year, many times, each year in fact, I am reminded of how much of a blessing my late fiance, Sergeant Michael R. Woodliff was. He served 4 years in the Army, climbing up in the ranks, focusing in bigger and better opportunities. He found himself in the 82nd Airborne, 37th Armoured Division and had re-enlisted to train in the Army's Special Force's elite group even though he was given the esteemed opportunity to serve in the Old Guard stateside in Washington, D.C. Just 8 days away from coming home to marry me, Mike and his convoy were attacked and struck a road-side bomb. He died in Iraq, I'm still not sure for what cause, but unwaiveringly serving our country. I miss Mike, most days than not, and see glimers of him throughout my life. So with no hesitation, I hope to honor and remember him, along with our other Unsung Heroes today and many days to follow. Lovingly, Crystal McClary of Fort Myers, Florida
