Published: Jan 12, 2011 3:25 AM EST

The Bargain Box Thrift Store http://www.bargainboxnaples.com, the oldest thrift store in Naples, and also a mission of Naples United Church of Christ, will donate proceeds from all merchant sales on Saturday, January 29, 2011 to Grace Place for Children & Families.

The event, coined Bargain Box Benefits, takes giving to the extreme by rousing those who love the thrift store shopping experience with a chance to be part of a unique charity fundraiser.  Shoppers will receive $5 in Bargain Box Bucks for every $20 they spend on January 29th for use on a future purchase made before February 28th at the Bargain Box. The Bargain Box Benefits event runs from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the 331 Eighth Street South store location in downtown Naples.

“This event will be a great way to raise needed funds for our mission as well as raise awareness of this great resource to our community,” said Rev. Stephanie Munz Campbell, Executive Director of Grace Place for Children and Families (pictured shopping at Bargain Box). Grace Place, a faith-based non-profit neighborhood center teaches literacy, language and life skills to children and families in Golden Gate city. Rev. Munz Campbell, along with many teachers and students from Grace Place, will be at the Saturday, January 29th Bargain Box Benefits event to personally thank shoppers.

The event is part of an ambitious new marketing campaign that began in January and has helped the store surpass its sales goals by 50 percent and increase awareness of its mission: To provide affordable items to individuals and families as well as to donate all profits generated by these items to help those in need in the greater Naples community. The store will host another Benefits event on March 12th to benefit Baby Basics.

“We are very proud to be in a position where we can dedicate an entire day’s sales to a great community asset like Grace Place,” said Bill Anderson, Volunteer Committee Chair for the Bargain Box. “Through our contributions to the church’s outreach programs, we support over 50 charities each year. These special Benefits events let us make an even stronger connection with our charity partners.”

ABOUT THE BARGAIN BOX

Located in the heart of downtown Naples, the Bargain Box thrift store is the longest operating community thrift store in Collier County. The store was established in 1975 by women leaders in the community including members of the Naples Women’s Club and Women’s Fellowship at Naples United Church of Christ. Merchandise at the Bargain Box is obtained through 100 percent community donations, and all revenue generated from sales goes back into the community. Over 100 volunteers from Naples United Church of Christ assist in store operations. The Bargain Box is open year round and includes several departments such as housewares, jewelry, electronics, linens, books, and men’s and women’s clothing. The store added a women’s boutique in the summer of 2009. The Bargain Box is located at 331 Eighth Street South, www.bargainboxnaples.com or (239) 262-3802.
