In conjunction with the Cape Coral High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club and students from Island Park High School, 25 local high school students met with a small group of community leaders to talk about the challenges of preventing underage drinking in Lee County. The Talk Back Format was developed by the Cape Coral High School SADD Club as an avenue to articulate the concerns and ideas of the students to Lee County influencers and leaders. The Talk Back was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sky Zone, and the students and adults enjoyed the Sky Zone facilities from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Moderator was Dr. Sandra Pavelka, Director of the Institute of Youth and Justice Studies, FGCU; and Coalition Board Member.
Local leaders who participated included Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass (tentative), Mary Fischer, Chair, School Board of Lee County; Captain Lisa Barnes, Cape Coral Police Department; Sheree Beau Wells, SalusCare; Jay Highley, The Sky Zone; Juan Capistran, Busey Bank; Leslie Robinson, Street Chicks in Recovery, Dianna Quay, Cape Coral SADD Club Advisor, Syndi Bultman, Trauma Department, Lee Memorial Health System; and Lori Brooks, School District of Lee County. The Talk Back was filmed by Street Chicks in Recovery to share with community leaders, prevention professionals and decision makers.
