Joyce, D.O., triple board certified in Cardio-Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, General Surgery and Phlebology (Venous Disease) at JVAI, offer you the benefit of over 70 years of combined medical and surgical experience. Our gold standard treatment of venous disease is unique and based on correctly diagnosing and treating the causes of subcutaneous venous hypertension. At JVAI, our approach continues to be recognized nationally resulting in numerous speaking engagements, research grants and education of physicians from all over the country. We have continued to innovate and develop new techniques enabling us to provide all patient treatments within our facility. Dr. Joyce has performed over 11,000 venous procedures and has the experience to provide an exceptional level of care for his patients.

Douglas H. Joyce, D.O., Vein Treatment Expert

Douglas H. Joyce, D.O., is an internationally recognized  expert on venous disorders and surgical vein treatment. He is triple board certified in Cardio-Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, General Surgery and Phlebology (Venous Disease). Because of his unmatched success in offering patients a more permanent cure for all types of venous disease through minimally invasive office procedures, he has attracted patients throughout the United States and abroad.

The Inspiration Behind Vein Treatment

For most of his career as a physician, Dr. Joyce worked as an cardio-thoracic and vascular surgeon. During that time, he saw a considerable number of patients with serious venous disease who had been misdiagnosed. These patients had a very poor quality of life – many suffered for years with debilitating leg pain, edema and venous leg ulcers that failed to heal. Dr. Joyce knew he could help these patients by giving them access to the treatment that would cure them of their underlying venous disease problem. From that desire, he founded the Joyce Vein & Aesthetic Institute in September of 2001.

Success and Innovation

Over the past decade, Dr. Joyce has become a leader in the vein treatment field. Originally he pioneered the Subfascial Endoscopic Perforator Surgery or SEPS procedure, performing one of the highest volumes of SEPS procedures and achieving over a 96% cure rate of venous ulcers.

Although SEPS worked well for the most part, it required hospitalization and general anesthesia which was expensive and contributed to a number of complications. Dr. Joyce made it his mission to provide the same or an improved treatment outcome through procedures that could be performed within the office setting using local and tumescent anesthesia. He began to pioneer less invasive technologies and within a short period of time, totally replaced SEPS with Saphenous Vein Laser Ablation and Venous Perforator Laser Ablation. Using these streamlined vascular surgery techniques, he was able to accomplish all of his goals for the treatment of serious venous disease.

Setting a New Standard in Venous Disease Treatment …

Through Laser Ablation for the treatment of incompetent venous perforators and saphenous veins, Dr. Joyce achieved a 99% success rate with virtually no complications. His surgical venous procedures have proved to be highly effective and well tolerated in the office setting with the patient awake and comfortable. At the 2009 American College of Phlebology’s 23rd Annual Congress, Dr. Joyce presented data that unequivocally proved his vein treatment techniques to be the safest and most effective treatment for such venous problems as varicose veins, venous leg ulcers and chronic venous insufficiency. His data represented a total of 5426 cases treated for incompetent Perforator and Saphenous veins in which an average of 99% of the patients achieved a successful outcome with negligible complications.

I was experiencing a constant ache in my leg with a cramping sensation to the calf of that leg. At night in bed, this feeling persisted and even woke me up. I was referred to Dr. Joyce by my primary physician. Dr. Joyce had an ultrasound done on that leg and found it to have an incompetent vein. I was scheduled to have a vein closure procedure done in his office. There was one very small incision done (did not require a stitch) and a catheter put through the vein. He then inserted a small wire with a laser on the end. The only discomfort I felt was the primary needle prick. I had a little discomfort for a few days after, but since then, the cramping, aching feeling in my leg has almost disappeared. What a relief! The procedure itself did not take very long and I was able to walk out of the office…Thank you Dr. Joyce.
