FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- Broward County authorities have found what appears to be pieces of a skull and teeth inside pottery that two female passengers were attempting to carry onto a plane at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport this afternoon.
Deputies were advised by TSA agents around 3:00 p.m. of the sealed pottery that had broken open. It contained dirt, rocks and the alleged pieces of skull and teeth.
The travelers were headed to Baltimore on an AirTran flight with the items, when the discovery was made at the C security checkpoint in Terminal 1. There was also a second, sealed pot that is intact.
The women told deputies that they visited Cuba earlier in the week and purchased the two sealed pots at a religious-type shop.
As a matter of routine, BSO homicide and crime scene detectives are following up with the two travelers, who are voluntarily remaining at the airport to speak with the detectives.
