Fort Myers beat Charlotte 5-2 in the series opener at Charlotte Sports Park on Friday.  Matt Tomshaw (11-5) earned his team-leading eleventh win with seven strong innings for the Miracle.

The Stone Crabs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a couple of Major Leaguer's making rehabilitation starts with the Stone Crabs.  Tampa Bay Rays players David Dejesus and Ryan Hanigan started the inning with singles before Maxx Tissenbaum knocked in Dejesus with a grounder back to Tomshaw who started a double play.

In the third, the Miracle scored three runs off of Charlotte starter Blake Snell with two outs. Fort Myers added runs in the seventh and ninth innings while the Stone Crabs scored on Tomshaw again in the seventh. 

The Miracle have now won six straight games going into Saturday nights game in Port Charlotte. Fort Myers has a 37-24 second half record which ties them with Palm Beach for first place. The Miracle won the first half standings which guarantees them a spot in the playoffs. Charlotte drops to 29-28 in the second half.
