GEORGETOWN, Mass.- Several people have been injured in a bus crash on I-95 in Georgetown, Massachusetts Tuesday night.
The bus was traveling south and carrying the University of Maine women's basketball team when it crossed into the northbound lanes and into a wooded area. The driver of the bus had serious injuries and was taken to a Boston hospital by medical helicopter. The northbound side of I-95 was shut down in the area while the crash was investigated.
The team's coach, Richard Barron, and three other team members were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The bus that was involved in the crash was operated by Cyr and Sons located in Old Town, Maine. Police are investigating whether the driver had a medical incident prior to the crash.
A State Police cruiser that was responding to the initial crash was struck from behind by another car. The trooper was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The team was scheduled to face Boston University Wednesday night.
