VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — The quarterback expected to back up University of South Dakota starter Dante Warren has left the team.

Coaches say 6-1, 210-pound Brandon Gorsuch was a transfer from Arizona Western junior college who joined the team prior to spring practices.

Coyotes head coach Ed Meierkort (MEYE'-uhr-kohrt) told The Argus Leader that the team is confident with redshirt freshman Tyler Wilhelm as the No. 2 quarterback.

USD opens its season at Central Florida on Saturday.
