BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Jeff Van Camp knows he doesn't have an easy job at Florida Atlantic.

No longer a backup, Van Camp is going into his final season with the Owls as the full-time starting quarterback.

He takes over for Rusty Smith, who has just about every FAU passing record of significance and led coach Howard Schnellenberger's club to a pair of bowl wins.

Van Camp got a taste last season of what's expected of him — he took over when Smith's senior year ended prematurely because of injury. Van Camp completed 59 percent of his passes for 1,372 yards, 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

But a 5-7 record wasn't good enough to get FAU back to a bowl game, and Van Camp only gets one more chance to change that.
