ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) - Third round leader Louis Oosthuizen blitzed the field to win the British Open at St. Andrews. The 27-year old finished 16-shots under par, seven in front of Lee Westwood for his first major championship.
Oosthuizen started the final round in first by four shots and he shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday.
His round featured an eagle, a birdie and two bogeys.
In his previous eight major championships, the South African had made the cut only once.
He had a chance to tie the modern Open record for biggest win, an eight-stroke margin last accomplished by Tiger Woods a decade ago at St. Andrews, but the 27-year-old missed a 10-foot birdie attempt at the final hole and tapped in for par.
Woods shot a final round par 72 to finish 3 under for the tournament while Phil Mickelson shot a 3-over 75 in round four to finish 1 over par.
