CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Garrett Wittels is two games away from history, and the chase will have to resume next season.

The Florida International infielder extended his hitting streak to 56 games, but FIU was eliminated from the NCAA tournament by Dartmouth 15-9. That means Wittels will resume his pursuit of the Division I all-time hit streak record next season.

Wittels had an RBI double in the first inning in the regional elimination game in Coral Gables, Fla. Wittels is just two games from the Division I mark set by Oklahoma State' Robin Ventura in 1987.
