FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The lawyer for a Broward County teen accused of severely beating a 15-year-old says his client is remorseful.
Russell Williams said Tuesday after a court hearing that the 15-year-old suspect was "extremely concerned" about the girl's condition and was "devastated" over the March 17th assault at Deerfield Beach Middle School. Josie Lou Ratley remains in a medically induced coma.
Her attorney says he appreciates the words of goodwill from the suspect, though they might be difficult for Ratley's family to accept. Authorities say the suspect punched and stomped on Ratley with steel-toed boots. He's being held at a juvenile detention center on a charge of premeditated attempted murder.
Williams also withdrew a motion Tuesday asking for a gag order in the case.
