Pirate Fest kicks off today and goes through Sunday at Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda. Look for live music, pirate camps, vendors and of course lots of pirates. Tonight there is a Pirates Ball at a the Charlotte Harbor Event Center for $30. The Flotilla Invasion is tomorrow, always fun to watch the decorated boats and costumes, this is a competition by the way.   For more info go to www.fishermensvillagepiratefest.com.

It's back to school time already and there are two backpack events happening this weekend. The first one is celebrating it's 15th anniversary of serving kids in the community, the The Multicultural Centre of Southwest Florida hosts the Annual Big Backpack Event Sunday from 11-3 at Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers. 2500 backpacks will be distributed to students age 5-12, there will also be activities and entertainment for the entire family. Then at Miromar Outlet in Estero, it is Kids Day with lots of activities and a free back pack giveaway to get you ready for back to school. Pick up tickets for the backpacks starting at 11 between Neiman Marcus Last Call and Bloomingdale's Outlet, the giveaway is at 1. Some backpacks have gift certificates for shopping at the mall.

It is tax free shopping this weekend for back to school so Mercato Shops in Naples is turning it into a party called the Summer Fest Stroll on Saturday from 11-7. Enjoy live music, some of the shops are serving food and wine, there is free yoga on the lawn at 10am. There will be kids activities and even a visit from Elsa from Frozen. And on the charitable side, The St Mathews House will be there accepting donations of gently used clothing and food.

IF time permits: Also tonight at the Edison Ford Winter Estates, the new porch on the Museum is dedicated with all kinds of activities including live music and refreshments. This is the firs addition to the museum in 30 years so it is celebration worthy.  It's a new covered space granting easy access to the gardens and galleries.
