PUNTA GORDA, Fl. - This weekend, you'll need to run for your life. It's the YMCA's Zombie 5K in Punta Gorda. Runner are actually 'bait.' When they register, they get a race belt that has multiple flags that represent vital organs.
Throughout the race, runners have to go through the various obstacles like the 'Tire Terror,' and the 'Fright Forest.' They will also have to dodge zombies. If they make it to the finish line with all their 'vital organ' flags, they are safe. If not, they become 'infected.' It's all in good fun and supporting the YMCA. Proceeds from the event will benefit their scholarship program and annual Kids Campaign.
The race is on Saturday, October 26th. Registration adn check-in is between 9 adn 10am in Laishley Park. The race starts at 10am. Runners can pre-register for $57 and for $67 the morning of the race. That includes your race participation, a t-shirt, food and drinks and admission into the Haunted on the Harbor festival.
If you want to ber a zombie in the race, it's $20 and $30 to get your zombie make-up done by professional make-up artists.
For the little ones, there is also a kids one mile run that is zombie free. That is $20 if you pre-register and $25 the day of the race.
