LEE COUNTY, Fla.- April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Children's Network of Southwest Florida is educating the community on the topic.

Aimee McLaughlin with the Children's Network of SWFL joined us on WINK News Now Weekend Morning to discuss some of their efforts this month, and what you can do if you suspect child abuse.

She says on April 19, the Golisano Children’s Hospital of SWFL, through the Child Advocacy Program, will host a presentation entitled:Identifying and Responding to Young Children Affected by Violence: Lessons from the Child Witness Project.  This presentation will be done by Betsy McAllister Groves, MSW, LICSW from the Boston Medical Center.

On April 26th, the Children’s Network of SWFL will close the month with an event to again showcase the poetry and talents of our youth and to choose the winner of the First Annual “Lose Yourself in the Words” Poetry Contest.  The event will be held in a theatre style setting in Ft. Myers, where the chosen 10 finalists will have the opportunity to present their work to an esteemed panel of judges.
