LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Remodeling part of your home can get pricey.. but current trends show most consumers are opting to invest in their current home versus moving into a new one.
More than one in three respondents in an Angie's List poll planned to invest in the outside of their house
"When it comes to making outdoor living spaces they can become very elaborate these days more of us are wanting to spend more time outside. But if you're on a budget be very clear and up front when you're planning the process," said Angie's List founder, Angie Hicks.
One of the best ways to do that is to break your project down into phases you can complete and enjoy over time.. then you don't have to foot the entire bill at once.
"They can get pretty expensive from some small jobs we do of decorative patios with a fire pit to full fledged areas with a full roof overhead we have full blown kitchens with mason fire places and fire pits they run the whole gamut," said remodeling contractor Charlie Watson.
Remodeling experts say its also important to find a contractor who will listen to your end goal and budget.. then help you figure out how to get the most bang for your buck.
"Sitting down with the clients and understanding what their lifestyle is and what their goals are how many people do they want to entertain out there.. Is it just a family or do they have guests over a lot? Do they enjoy sitting outside the fire or is it more grilling and a place to eat outside? So its really diving into those questions and asking what they want," Watson continued.
If you want to do a more elaborate project Angies Lists recommends coming up with a five-year plan so it's not quite as hard on your wallet and you still get what you want.
