Officials say the woman shot dead after attempting to drive past a White House security barrier and then leading officers on a chase toward the Capitol is a

34-year old from Connecticut.  She is Miriam Carey of Stamford. Carey had a 1-year-old girl in the car with her. The child wasn't harmed.

Washington D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier says she's confident the incident was not an accident. Capitol Police don't believe there was a terrorist link.

The woman's car at one point had been surrounded by police cars and she managed to escape, zipping around a traffic circle and past the north side of the

Capitol. Video shot by a TV cameraman showed police pointing firearms at her car before she rammed a Secret Service vehicle and continued driving. Lanier

said police shot and killed her a block northeast of the Capitol.
